Early bird ticket offers for big show

TICKETS for the eagerly-awaited Mirfield Show are now on sale with an early-bird discount.

Anyone buying tickets in advance will pay just £2.50 instead of £4 on the day. Children go free. Tickets are available from Ramsdens Butchers in Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, and they will also be sold outside Mirfield Co-op on Fridays and Saturdays ahead of the show on Sunday, August 19.

The show is Mirfields big day out and last year the attendance topped 10,000.

This years show will feature the Yorkshire heats of the Kennel Clubs Scruffts, a Crufts-style contest for cross-breed dogs. Winners from each class will go through to the national final in London in November.

This year there more Best in Show classes than ever before with seven different horse and pony classes, six fun dog show classes, 42 different flower and vegetable classes and 19 children's classes. Ever-popular events such as the tug-of-war, bushtucker trial and banana-eating will feature again.

In a bid to cut congestion and ease parking a circular bus will run to the showground every half-hour, calling at all the bus stops along Parker Lane, Crowlees Road, Knowl Road, Water Royd Lane, Old Bank Road, Greenside Road, Dunbottle Lane, Church Lane, Huddersfield Road, Steanard Lane, Granny Lane, Calder Road, Newgate and Huddersfield Road. A park-and-ride from Castle Hall Academy will also operate again.
