A Colne Valley student is gearing up to become a cycling champion of tomorrow due to a string of competition successes.

Colne Valley High School year nine pupil, Eddie Townend, is racing towards future glory after gaining top positions in two recent races.

He came first in both the under 15s category of the British schools Cycling Association Yorkshire Circuit Championships and in the under 14s category in the cyclo cross series at Newsome High school.

This was followed by an impressive effort in his first attempt at the notoriously difficult Colne Valley Mountain Bike Challenge, in which he came 45th out of 207 riders after battling wind, rain and punishing climbs in a 30 mile ride and good result in the Examiner Charity Challenge.

Eddie is now looking forward to a busy month ahead, as he gears up to take part in the Pedalsport Cyclo cross summer series, continue the White Rose youth league circuit series, and takes part in the Streetbikes community tour and ‘Tour de Fujitsu’.

His mum, Karen Townend, said: “We are very proud of him and wanted to share his success.”
