DEIGHTON adults have embraced a course to help them improve their skills to return to work.

Around 50 people travelled from Huddersfield to Barnsley last weekend to attend the event at Northern College and they were even allowed to bring their children along for the day.

The course included confidence building, digital photography and holistic therapy.

During the weekend, students were able to tour Wentworth Castle, the gardens and then look at other courses that college offered.

Glendene Gill, the learning mentor from Fresh Horizon, said:

“It was a pleasure to be part of something that encouraged so many local people back into learning.

“Northern College gets it right by breaking down the barriers for some learners who have families. Learners were able to engage because they were able to take their children with them.

“It’s great that all learners have progressed to other courses which will no doubt enhance their abilities to go on to further education or better their work prospects.”

Fresh Horizons, employee Glendene Gill works with adults in Ashbrow and Birkby to help, support and encourage them back into learning has been working closely with the college for a number of years.

She said a number of students who participated have decided to continue on further courses.
