COMMUNITY groups are being invited to cash in for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Her Royal Highness will celebrate sixty years on the throne in June and official celebrations will take place nationwide over the weekend of Saturday June 2 to Tuesday June 5.

In London a 1,000 boat strong flotilla will take to the Thames on Sunday June 3. It will feature a seven-mile long procession of Dunkirk little ships, historic vessels, steam boats and tugs.

At its centre will be a royal barge, decorated in red and gold, carrying the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Now Denby Dale Parish Council is offering local organisations up to £500 to celebrate the historic event.

The Skelmanthorpe-based council will dish out grants to groups that can demonstrate their Diamond Jubilee activities will benefit the local community.

The number of grants has not yet been set, but funds will be handed out on individual merit.

Grants will be offered to community and voluntary groups, and groups set up to organise Jubilee events within the Denby Dale Parish.

Finance will not be offered to fund firework displays or refreshments.
