TENNIS players got a taste of new state-of-the-art facilities installed thanks to the Olympic legacy.

Denby Dale Tennis Club showed off its new carpet courts at an open day following months of landscaping work by members.

The new carpet surface plays like a clay court and is laid over SudsSports plastic box sections which were originally used under the London 2012 Olympic Equestrian Arena in Greenwich.

The courts were laid earlier this year but members have been involved in planting trees, shrubs and flowers around the new courts.

Their efforts were hampered by the wet spring and the late snowfall but they got there in the end and are very pleased with result.

The open day attracted more than a dozen adults and over twenty juniors to sample the new facilities.

The project was made possible by grants from Kirklees Council and Sport England with additional support from Denby Dale Parish Council and the Huddersfield Common Good Trust. People of all ages and abilities are being invited to a ‘come-and-try-it’ event on June 2 where the Grand Opening will take place at 11.30am. Web: www.denbydaletennis.co.uk
