A couple who met at a friend’s engagement party have celebrated their diamond wedding.

Alwyn and Bill Hunsley enjoyed a family party to mark their diamond day.

The couple married at St Andrew’s Church on Leeds Road in 1953.

They enjoyed a reception at Bradley Mills Club and had their honeymoon in Blackpool.

Mr Hunsley was a submariner in the Royal Navy at the time and served in the West Indies, America and throughout Europe. The couple spent 12 months in Malta, arriving soon after the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh had left.

He left the Navy in 1956 and worked as an engineer, including 25 years at Metal Closures in Waterloo.

Mrs Hunsley, nee Dyson, was a fine worsted mender for several companies include Taylor and Lodges and Whitley Willows.

They have three children, John, Michael and Lyn, and four grand-children, Ross, Elizabeth, Laura and Kirsty.

The couple have lived in Lepton for 53 years and Mrs Hunsley is a keen line-dancer and Mr Hunsley enjoys woodwork and gardening.
