Children took to the roads last week to show the red light to speeding drivers.

Pupils from Dryclough Infants School took part in a giant walking bus to raise awareness of the dangers of driving over the speed limit and encourage them to act on their acceleration.

Year one students headed the march with their parents, which took place on roads in the school’s neighbourhood in Dryclough Road, to mark the launch of their campaign.

They were joined by police sergeant Mandy Mellor, community neighbourhood co-ordinator Jenny Foster, Street Scene action team ranger Diane Clifford, and child and family wellbeing team members, Karen Fox and Rachel Topham.

Child and family wellbeing manager Gill Simpson said: “There is a big need to lower the speed limit around the school and we hope that the walk helped to raise awareness of our campaign.”

They join several other schools in the area who have started campaigns to reduce speeds near schools to 20mph, following the launch of a huge national 20 is Plenty campaign.
