A MANUFACTURING firm has enjoyed signal success after lifting one of the major trophies at last year’s Examiner Business Awards.

Dual Seal Glass was the worthy winner of the category for Business of the Year at the 2011 awards last November.

The company was formed in 1995 by father and son David and Nigel Meredith to make double glazing units for houses – before switching to the commercial sector.

Dual Seal moved from 12,000sq ft premises at Milnsbridge to a bigger site on Leeds Road and invested £1m in state-of-the-art cutting equipment.

Dual Seal has supplied glass to contracts across the UK and mainland Europe. Most of those projects are for offices, hospitals, hotels and sporting venues – including Doncaster racecourse, Edgbaston Cricket Ground and numerous football grounds.

The company has also worked on Huddersfield University’s creative arts building and Kirklees College’s Waterfront development.

However, since winning the award last year, the firm has gone from strength to strength.

Its most recent development has been to install a new toughening furnace to increase capacity and improve energy efficiency.

Nigel Meredith, commercial director, said: “Since winning the Business of the Year award, Dual Seal Glass has gone on to register a record turnover for the company of £11m with increased profits.

“Despite a major downturn in the construction industry, we have continued to buck the trend.

“Our recent £1m investment in a new state-of-the-art energy-saving toughening furnace – the first of its kind in the UK – has increased our size capability and meant a large influx of new enquiries and subsequently orders.”

Mr Meredith said: “The prestige of winning the Examiner Business Awards has definitely led to an increased awareness about our company and increased exposure in the glass and construction publications throughout the UK.

“It has also put a ‘spring in the step’ of everybody throughout our organisation to know that our company has been recognised locally for its achievements.”
