Elland Boys’ Brigade Old Boys are getting together for a touching reunion.

Four members of the 5th Halifax (Elland) Company Old Boys Association Band will take part in a tour of Belgium as part of a band of Boys’ Brigade Old Boys with members drawn from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

The band is known as the Bugles and Drums of the Stedfast Association.

It is travelling to Belgium on August 29 as part of the 100th anniversary of The Great War 1914-2014 commemorative events.

The band is due to play at a last post ceremony at the Menin Gate where wreaths will be laid, with one specially from the 5th Halifax (Elland) Company Old Boys’ association.

The wreath has the message: “In memory of all former members of The Boys’ Brigade, particularly remembering those from Yorkshire, who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-1918.”

The band also travel to Thiepval Memorial to perform, followed by performances at Authuille Church memorial and Ulster Tower memorial. They return on September 2.

It is estimated that as many as 100,000 members and former members of The Boys’ Brigade rallied to Britain’s ‘Call to Arms’ and joined the Armed Forces during the first year of the 1914-18 War.

The band is also preparing to perform in November in London as part of the Lord Mayor’s Parade.
