Elland’s David Hardy has been re-selected to contest the next local elections.

Clr Hardy will be the Liberal Democrat’s contender for the Elland seat, which he currently holds on Calderdale Council.

The retired businessman said: “I feel very happy to have been re-selected to contest the seat. I’ll do my best.”

Clr Hardy said he’d helped secure planning money for a skate park at Hullen Edge Park and a play area at Whitwell Green Lane, which featured among his highlights since being elected in May 2010. “I’ve seen a lot of changes and have been involved in a lot of good work in Elland, we’ve progressed with the demolition and hopefully bringing back the Blackley brickworks.

“I’m working with lots of groups who do some great things in Elland.

“I’ve lived here 40-odd years, I moved my businesses here and have employed many people over the years.

“For me getting more investment is key. We’re in a prime location near the M62 and I hope we can thrive from it and I hope to help that happen.

“Also getting a railway station here is a must, I hope it will come to fruition.”

Clr Hardy owned a confectioners before moving into the building trade.
