I AM writing to say how very much I enjoy your regular series All our Yesterdays.

However, these seem to show a Land of Lost Content where the sun is always shining, children are well-presented and polite, old folk are cherished and respected, God’s in his heaven and all’s right with the world. One has the very strong feeling that if taken up and put down in one of the scenes one would feel perfectly at home and in the comfort of proper folk with whom one has almost everything in common.

I know that so much of modern-day life is better than 50 years ago and I suppose that we had to lose something in exchange. But that “something” does seem to be rather a lot.
