QUITE a number of years ago I watched a programme about the life of Enoch Powell, his rise and success as a Member of Parliament and his family life. It would be after he had to resign.

It was one of the most interesting life stories I have seen on television. He was a really caring parent and husband and the thing that touched me most was that when it was his wife’s birthday he wrote her a poem and sent her roses.

It was so touching I cried. I wrote to him at the time and I have a reply signed ‘Enoch’! I am proud to have it.
