FAMILY History was asked in March this year to help Maureen Williams of Caernarfon, North Wales, track down one branch of her family, the Shaws of Berry Brow.

in brief, Maureen’s father was Llewellyn Tinsdeall and her grandfather George Tinsdeall.

George married Harriet Emma Shaw, one of seven children of Alfred and Emma Shaw, of Berry Brow.

Maureen says she had a good response from that first enquiry – but says the usual thing has happened, and one line of research has opened others.

She’s now especially interested in two further links.

One of Alfred and Emma’s seven children was Ann Alice. In 1874 she married one Jack Garside, and their children were Fred and Mollie. There’s a big Fartown connection here.

Another member of the original family was Mary Hannah Shaw, who married Jack Hewitt.

The two had a large family, mostly boys, and they lived in Holmfirth.
