A loving daughter has honoured her late mother’s life by raising at least £1,800 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Sara Shelton lost her mother Glenys Bintley last June and felt compelled to give something to the charity which supported her condition.

Sara, of Honley, said: “Mum was a very talented lady who passed down her talents to my brother, David Bintley CBE who is the director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet.

"Up to three years ago mum was still teaching piano and producing many beautiful paintings. A year later she lost all these abilities as her Alzheimer’s took over.

"Dad was still working, teaching piano but gave up to care for mum 24 hours a day and did a fantastic job.

"I decided to do something positive as I was finding mum’s loss very hard so myself, two family members and six friends walked nearly 10 miles from my home in Honley, to Meltham then down into Holmfirth and back to Honley to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.”

David, one of Sara’s sponsors, joined the group after returning from his last visit to Japan as artistic director to the National Ballet of Japan.
