POLE MOOR Riding Club held a Fancy Dress Pub Ride around Slaithwaite last Saturday.
Villagers were amazed to see Santa with his cute Little Helper, elves, fairies, clowns, snowmen and a Fairy Godmother on horseback trotting around the village in the winter sunshine!
The club members collected £50 for The Laura Crane Trust and Brooke Animal Hospital and people gave kindly despite the credit crunch!
Before the ride started club members enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies provided by Sharon Holmes dressed as a Fallen Angel.
Heather and Lucy Fell of Slaithwaite judged the fancy dress and winners were:
1 – Becky Holmes as Santa's Little Helper with Dion Tiplady as Santa and joint winner Maz Bradley as a Fairy Godmother.
2 – Alison Whiteley as Snow Queen.
3 – Gina Whiteley as a clown.
4 – Katie Turner as a fairy.
5 – Nicola Turner as a fairy.
6 – Charlie Holmes as an elf and Ginny the dog.
All are welcome to the joyful event Service of Carols on Horseback at Slaithwaite – in the car park and Holroyds Yard, opposite Slaithwaite church – on Sunday December 21 at 1pm. Club members are looking forward to this annual event and all horses, riders and people on foot are invited. There will be a trophy for the best turned-out horse and rider also the best fancy dress.
The Rev Robin Townsend is taking the service and music for the carols will be played by The Colne Valley Music Centre Ensemble.
There is an open invitation to join in the merry seasonal sing-song. A collection will be made for Andrea's Gift, a charity for Brain Tumour Research which is in memory of local man Robert Coupland.
