TWO Huddersfield nurses are pounding the pavements for causes close their hearts.

Sarah Cowdell and Ann Molloy, who are based at Fartown Health Centre, have chosen Crossroads Care and The British Heart Foundation, respectively, to give something back to charity.

Sarah, a specialist respiratory nurse told the Examiner: I ran the Great North Run last year and its up there as one of the best days of my life.

It was such a great atmosphere and to give something back was overwhelming.

I have been training four times a week. I usually alternate it between the gym and outdoor runs.

Ann has been running longer than me, but we both did the Race For Life 10k at Pontefract together recently.

I am really looking forward to the Great North Run. Its a big event to take part in.

Sarah said she just wants to raise as much as possible for the charity.

She added:Through my work as a respiratory nurse I became aware of the fantastic support which Crossroads provides and wanted to support a local charity.

And with the backing of local businesses including K Pharmacy in Birkby and Northern Fitness in Linthwaite she is on the right track to raking in the sponsorship money.

Crossroads carer and volunteer fundraiser for Crossroads Care Mary Rogers said: Thanks to the tremendous efforts of people like Sarah we can help to provide more care hours for Carers and the people they support.

We would like to thank Sarah for taking on the Great North Run to raise vital funds for our local charity and also Bashir Karim of K Pharmacy, Birkby who have kindly sponsored her.

Sarah and Ann will join thousands of runners for the gruelling 13.1mile course through the heart of the north east on Sunday September 16.

The run from Newcastle city centre to South Shields is popular with celebrity runners, fun runners, and those who have set themselves awe-inspiring personal challenges.
