Friends of Honley Library hosted their Christmas poetry readaround.
The evening was attended by 33 people who read both Winter and Christmas poems, as well as some of their favourites and after they enjoyed festive refreshments.
They were also entertained with poetry and music from two special guests; Theo Ayres and Harley Butterworth who are currently studying at Greenhead College.
Theo read some of his own poems which were both moving and thought provoking.
He was commended in 2012 and 2014 in the Foyle Young Poet Competition and is a member of the ‘Writing Squad’; a development programme for young writers aged 16-21 years who are working or studying in the North of England. He is also a talented musician who plays piano and the drums.
Harley played guitar and sang a variety of both pop and folk songs, ending with a beautiful rendition of ‘I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas’.
She has performed in various musical theatre productions including Oklahoma and Below Stairs. She has also sung in ‘The Voice’.
The next Poetry Readaround is on March 3 with special guest being local poet Dot Foster.
