The final phase of a skatepark project has been frozen until October – to allow boarders and bladers to make the most of the Summer.

The skatepark at Broadlands Rec has been partially completed.

The next phase will see an extension to the park and floodlights to enable night riding.

But to avoid halting the fun during the summer holidays, the work has been postponed until Autumn.

Melvyn Gibson has led the project with Meltham Mayor Terry Lyons for four-and-a-half years.

Mr Gibson said: “Whilst there is daylight until late and warm weather, the last thing the youngsters wanted was their skatepark being closed down for three weeks whilst the contractors constructed the extension.

“Hopefully by the end of October, Meltham Skatepark will be complete.

“Already it is extremely well used and enjoyed by so many young people who hone their skills, get plenty of fresh air, exercise and make new friends.”
