PICTUREDROME boss Peter Carr has revealed plans for a new bar in the former Holmfirth Express print works.
The Victoria Press, Norridge Bottom, Holmfirth, housed the print operations for the Holmfirth Express from its inception in the late 19th century until the late 1970s.
The Express was purchased by the Barnsley Chronicle in the late 1970s. The name of the publication was changed to the Holme Valley Express and the printing was then transferred to Barnsley. A few years later the Express & Chronicle newspaper group was bought by the Examiner and the print works became an independent jobbing printers.
But now the building could move into a new era as a bar for the adjacent Holmfirth Picturedrome.
Mr Carr says the larger bar is needed as the noise from the current stage-door bar prevents it from being used while feature films are being shown. The stage-door bar has also been deemed too small with unsatisfactory toilet facilities.
If given the green light the new bar could stay open until midnight most nights and 1am on Saturdays and about five new job could be created.
