IT'S worth taking time out to explore the many delights of Denby Dale, Scissett, Skelmanthorpe and Clayton West.

Between them, the four neighbouring villages tick all the right boxes. Top of the list for many people is the sheer convenience of village shopping. Around the district you will find numerous small, often family-owned local businesses, which offer a refreshing alternative to the larger supermarkets and out of town stores.

Another 'plus' is the excellent choice of pubs and restaurants serving fine wines, beers and mouthwatering meals. Well-maintained leisure facilities for young and old and a great community spirit also score highly.

New life has been breathed into landmark buildings which have played a vital role in the area’s industrial heritage since the 1800s. Springfield Mill, Denby Dale is a magnet for local and visiting shoppers, providing a base for an ever growing variety of small businesses. Another popular choice for some alternative retail therapy is Nortonthorpe Mills in Scissett. The central building is home to Violet – one of the very few ‘in situ’ mill engines in Yorkshire.

Nearby Scissett Baths is an amenity much loved and treasured by generations of swimmers and learners. Extensively refurbished in recent years, the baths now has a wider role as a health and fitness centre. For more information, phone 01484 222907 or e-mail www.scissettbaths.co.uk
