THEY were set up in 1998 and the Friends of Beaumont Park certainly live up to their name.

In those years the group has done much to re-energise the park not just in improving the facilities that this much-loved green space has to offer but in the community spirit that surrounds it.

The volunteers are now understandably excited about the latest venture in the group’s efforts to save the Victorian park and enhance its facilities.

Work has started on a new visitor centre and tea room which it is hoped will be open by the end of the month.

The Friends had outgrown the old visitor centre which speaks volumes about the work it has done in encouraging more families to use this delightful park.

Hopefully their enthusiasm and determination will ensure that Beaumont Park is never short of friends.
