IT was on your marks, get set and go, for the beginning of a ‘go-kart challenge’.
Moor End Academy launched the competition at their Crosland Moor campus in collaboration with Huddersfield Town Football Club.
The competition is organised by Huddersfield firm David Brown Engineering and is now in its second year.
Over the winter and spring terms, students from all year groups will meet every Wednesday for an hour in Design & Technology to design and manufacture a ‘green’ pedal-powered go kart.
The kart will be entered into a competition at the Galpharm Stadium on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.
There, it will be pitched against karts from other local high schools in a series of tests including freewheeling downhill, manoeuvrability and an obstacle course.
The winning team will be invited to the Galpharm stadium as VIP guests to watch a Huddersfield Town game from a hospitality box.
The first-placed go-kart will also be on display at David Browns.
And it will open the next Terriers’ home game as the winning team pedal the kart round the pitch in a lap-of-honour.
All participating teams will receive complementary tickets to a Terriers’ game during the 2012/13 season.
The launch event was attended by Huddersfield Town footballing legend Andy Booth.
