GOLCAR Training Band teamed up with another in Cumbria as part of an exchange visit.

Some 15 band members headed ‘up north’ to join Askam Town Training Band.

It was a challenging, rewarding and fun day of music-making.

Having arrived in the morning and met new friends, the massed band set to work rehearsing six new pieces under the direction of their conductor Peter Strawson.

Among the programme for the evening concert was an arrangement of I Got A Feeling, penned specially for the day by guest conductor Simon Oliver, some original works by Mark Vause and the popular and moving hymn Abide With Me.

An exchange day is not all work and there was a game of rounders in the afternoon before a pre-concert tea of pie ’n’ peas.

The concert was a success and plans are afoot for Askam to visit the Colne Valley.

Golcar Training Band rehearse below Golcar Baptist Church on Mondays (6.15pm-7.15pm).

To join ring band secretary Ruth Lumb on 07583 304875 or just call in to rehearsals.
