Grumpy and his pals were out in force at Newsome High School and Sports College.

The star of book and film was at the secondary school with his glamorous chums, including Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood, to celebrate World Book Day 2014 in style.

For the third year in a row, staff dressed as famous literary characters in order to inspire the students to read more.

During the week, pupils also watched the film version of Mr Stink, which most Year 7 students have been reading, had a bake sale to raise money for more books, launched their Book Blog and held an entertaining book quiz.

Teacher Steve Horsfall said: “All in all it was another hugely successful World Book Day, and here’s to it getting even bigger and better next year!”
