NEWSOME’S emerging 8s were away at West Craven. The game was very tight with both teams defending and attacking well. Lewis Murphy opened the scoring with a blistering run and there were also excellent tries from Kane North and Lewis King – who scored his first hat trick of the season from three long distance runs. Top tacklers of the day were Lewis Murphy and Kane North, both making six brilliant tackles, but the man of the match was given to Lewis King for scoring his hat trick and having four tackles under his belt – all helping Newsome to victory.

Moldgreen 24

BOTH sides played well in this this closely fought local derby.

Newsome started with determination and were rewarded with a full length try from Billy Haywood and followed through with a further two to give his side a half time lead of 12-4.

In the second half Moldgreen fought back, but Newsome maintained their lead with tries from Billy Denton (4), Billy Haywood (3) and Wesley McGuire (2).

Man of the match went to Billy Denton for his all round performance. Grafter award went to Billy Haywood for his performance and 34 tackles and biggest hit went to Kian Brook for a good solo effort stopping Moldgreen from scoring a try.

Brighouse Rangers 32

NEWSOME started brightly – and got the first try when Jasper McGuire scored after only two minutes – but Brighouse soon levelled.

In a tight first half Newsome just held the upper hand and at half time were leading 16-14 after Jasper McGuire scored his second try and William Rodgers dived in at the corner.

In the second half Newsome raced into a 26-18 lead after Connor Boylan scored two tries. Adam Sheffield then scored to increase the lead to 30-18. Brighouse hit back with three quick tries and just edged a lively, enjoyable game.

IN what proved to be a great effort for the whole game Newsome never gave up against a stronger Sheffield side. Excellent tackling by Jonathon Raw, Elliot Lander and Alys Senior, who was playing in possibly her last match with the Reds. Great team work passing the ball all helped culminate in a try from Ben Gee and more strong drives from Jordan Gabrielle, Jacob Peel Jonathon Raw Ethan Howden and Elliot Lander helped keep Newsome in Sheffield’s half and making a far stronger impression in the second half having been 10-0 down at half-time.. Man of the match went to Jacob Peel and the grafter award went to Jordan Gabrielle.

All the junior teams (emerging 8s, 8s and 9s) have now started their summer season while the older teams are winding theirs down.
