IT’S been a wonderful weekend of sport, saying farewell to a Town legend and hello to a possible running star of the future.

Anyone who was at the Galpharm Stadium on Saturday couldn’t fail to have been moved by the true affection felt by the thousands of fans for ever-popular Andy Booth.

He made it a true family occasion with his children – tiny tot Hermione and six-year-old son, Harrison, as mascots – and his family joined him on the Galpharm pitch for a family photo.

It summed up perfectly how football has become a real family affair in some grounds in recent years thanks to the massive advances in CCTV systems, ground safety and effective stewarding.

Boothy has been a brilliant servant to the club and always makes time for the fans which is why he will be the perfect ambassador for the club from next season.

Congratulations to Olympic hopeful Matthew Pierson who came 23rd in the London Marathon – the 8th British male – sparking an early interest in Huddersfield for the 2012 Olympics.
