Hepworth Utd B 5 Battyeford 0

HEPWORTH’S preparation was thorough and carefully planned by coaches Ian Bray, Tony Boothroyd and manager Kevin Taylor.

One point is all that was required to become champions, and Hepworth got the breakthrough from a Battyeford goalkick. Luke Taylor pounced and found captain George Jowett, who had time and space to pick his spot from outside the box.

The second soon followed from a throw in from Gabriel Hinchliffe to James Wilkinson to Jowett who tucked it in the corner of the net.

Hepworth’s third came after J J Kilner’s shot was saved brilliantly by the keeper. Connor Garlick sent the ball into the air with lots of spin on it to be met on the volley by Tommy Cox to score.

The final goal of the first half started with Taylor sending Sam Travis on his way. Travis let fly with a fierce shot that could only be parried by the keeper and Alfie Perry volleyed home the rebound.

The only goal of the second half was much deserved effort from goal machine James Wilkinson.

Hepworth have two games left to play against second place Oxspring at home on April 19 and Westend in third on the 26 away.

Pudsey 2 Hepworth United A 5

A FINE second half performance swept Hepworth past Pudsey in this league encounter.

Hepworth took the lead when Luca Corradini headed in a high ball from Elliot Gilbert. Jonathan Mudd went close shortly afterwards, but Pudsey struck back when keeper Ash Moorhouse was unable to gather a cross and their forward had an easy tap in.

Liam Temple and Ben Wilkinson came on, and with Mudd moving up front, Hepworth looked a much more threatening side. Wilkinson won a close race to the ball with the keepel, and slotted it into the net for Hepworth’s second, and moments later Luke Veasey passed a high ball into Mudd, who rounded his marker and picked his spot. Luke Veasey scored Hepworth’s fourth with a great header and the contest was effectively over.

Louis Sykes went close to making it five, before a rare defensive mistake let in Pudsey who scored a second as some consolation.

Mudd then added a late goal for what was a comprehensive win.

Man of the match: Jonathan Mudd.
