A HEAD boy is scaling new heights – by completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

James Hopkins, head boy at Hipperholme Grammar School, will climb the peaks in aid of a charity he volunteers at – the Next Steps Centre in Halifax

On Saturday he will walk the distance of 25 miles in one day and climb over Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

James said: “I have been a keen walker for a long time, however I have never done all three peaks at the same time.

“As well as raising funds for a charity which plays a large part in my life, I am doing this for enjoyment and a sense of personal achievement.”

James who is also taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, has been going on regular walks and hikes to train for the climb.

In his final year at Hipperholme Grammar School, James is studying English Literature, Music and History at A level.

A keen fundraiser, he has been involved in sponsored musical performances.
