YOUNG ARM OF THE LAWOfficers from the Valleys Neighbourhood Policing team have been working with pupils from Meltham Moor and C of E schools in an initiative targeting motorists in the area who were driving while using mobile phones. The children had fun wearing high visibility uniforms and police hats and also had the chance to speak with motorists who were stopped by the officers.

BURGLARYThere were two reported burglaries in the Holmfirth area last week. One was in the Underbank area and the other in the Cinderhills area. Fortunately, nothing was stolen in either of the raids. Patrols will be continued. Holmfirth, Jan 27. Raider sneaked in through unlocked front door and went upstairs but was disturbed by victim waking up. The suspect escaped from the premises by forcing the first floor bathroom transom window and climbing out onto ground below. No property was stolen.

THEFT Neal Brothers Ltd, Bent Ley Road, Meltham, Jan 31. Raider got into secure compound after cutting lock on gate and stole a quantity of Yorkshire stone from the yard area. Tools were stolen from a van in the Brockholes area. A vehicle had its hand brake removed after a window was smashed in the same area.

CRIMINAL DAMAGEBrick used to smash glass window in a garage in the Thongsbridge area. It would appear that people are entering Honley High School grounds out of hours. A window near the dining area was damaged with a stone.

VEHICLE CRIMEMeltham, Jan 31. Liquid substance thrown over two vehicles causing damage to paintwork. New Mill, Jan 26. Offside electric mirror pulled off leaving it dangling on wires. Jackson Bridge, Feb 1. Nearside van window smashed and catches on back doors released. Generator and diamond drill set stolen. Brockholes, Jan 27. Suspect knocked on victim’s door asking for money and then stole keys from inside of the front door and used them to steal car from driveway. Vehicle later found burnt out. Man arrested. A vehicle parked in the car park of the Holme Valley Squash Club was broken into. The door lock was forced with what is believed to be a screwdriver and a set of Wilson golf clubs stolen. A car was stolen with keys from New Mill Road, Brockholes, on the evening of January 27. The vehicle was later found burnt out in the Dalton area. A forklift truck was stolen from a garage on Huddersfield Road, Holmfirth.
