ALERTPolice are appealing for witnesses following a burglary at St. Augustine’s Church on Busker Lane, Scissett. The incident happened between Thursday October 6 and Tuesday October 11. Suspects smashed a rear window and damaged other property. A large brass cross was removed from the altar and moved to the back of the church. Food donated by the congregation for their harvest festival was opened, eaten and the empty cans and packets left in the church. Kirkburton and Denby Dale Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) will be increasing their patrols in the Scissett area. Pc Sally Baines said: "To target a church, damage it, then handle and move about important religious items is totally disrespectful. We are appealing to the local community for any information about this crime - did anybody see anyone acting suspiciously in the area or hanging around the church grounds? If so, please call the NPT on 0845 60 60 606. Your information could be vital."

ATTEMPTED BURGLARYAlmondbury, Oct 11. Raider tried to force open side upvc kitchen door and then forced upvc door on conservatory shattering the glass, but was still unable to get inside.
