Morning worship at Holmfirth Methodist Church on Sunday was led by Michael Tolson. Michael took as his theme the naming of Jesus and invited the congregation to consider in a number of ways what it means to us to know who Jesus is. Barbara Rochester read from Luke’s Gospel the stories of Simeon and Anna – two people from the Jewish tradition who longed to see the promised Messiah – and the congregation considered what it meant to them to identify the child Jesus as the long-awaited Saviour. Joan Tolson supported this with a meditation about waiting. After reminding everyone of the many names and titles given to Jesus, Michael asked all to think about what the name of Jesus means to us and to rededicate themselves at the beginning of a new year as the boy Jesus was dedicated in the Temple at Jerusalem. Regular coffee mornings continue each Thursday from 10am - including the shoppers’ service at 11am. All are welcome to join in.
