BROCKHOLES

Mr Brian Williams led worship at the Methodist Church. The lessons were read by Mr Granville Dews and Miss Barbara Kaye. The organist was Mr Keith Garside.

Family communion at St George's Church was celebrated by the Rev David Barnes, who encouraged members of the congregation to Keep Our Eyes on Jesus. John Roberts read the lesson and Rosalind Watt was the server. Hymns and songs were accompanied by the music group and the organist was Verena Wood.

HOLMBRIDGE

Midweek Holy Communion at St David's Church was conducted by the Rev Geoff Bamford when lessons were read by Ian Gold. The Over 60s Club met in the afternoon. Friday evening prayers were led by Ian Gold.

A Sunday ‘Worship Together’ service at St David's Church was led by the Rev Geoff Bamford and Ian Gold. The organist was Jean Chadwick. Evensong was led by Ian Gold when the pianist was Audrey Brook.

HONLEY

At a meeting of Honley Probus Club in the community centre, chairman Maurice Harper introduced Chris Freeman, whose talk, illustrated by slides, covered the area of coastline in western Turkey and the inland ruined but excavated city of Ephesus. Alan Skinner proposed the vote of thanks.

The family service at St Mary’s Church was led by the Rev David Barnes. Lessons were read by Kirsty James. Jane and Graham Wardman led intercessions and the music group led the singing.

On Sunday evening, the Rev David Barnes celebrated parish Eucharist at St Mary’s Church. Pauline Adams read the lesson and Pat Green led intercessions. The organist was Jean Chadwick.

The current Honley Flyer village magazine reports: “June may seem a little early to be mentioning Christmas, but planning for this year’s St Mary’s Street Market is well underway. The market is the centrepiece of a series of events showcasing Honley and this year the market and will be held on Saturday, December 3 from 10am to 3.30pm... Get the dates in your diary now. UPPERTHONG

The weekly prayer breakfast on Tuesday was held at the home of the Hopkins family. The monthly meeting of the Spirituality Group was held on Wednesday evening in the meeting room.

Holy Communion on Thursday at St John's Church was led by the Rev Di Ellerton. A faith lunch followed in the meeting room.

Family communion at St John's Church was led by the Rev Di Ellerton, who also led the family service when the reader was Les Hopkins and the organist was Adam Greenhalgh. Refreshments were served afterwards by Hilary Roberts.

WILSHAW

On Saturday, St Mary’s Church annual coffee morning was held in Meltham church hall. There were cake and produce stalls, a tombola and a raffle. The event was very well supported.

There was no service at St Mary’s on Sunday, so the congregation were able to attend services at either St Bartholomew’s, Meltham or Christ Church, Helme.

Tomorrow, Sunday, St Mary’s Church will host a United Service for the parish of Christ The King as the church celebrates the patronal festival of St Mary The Virgin. The Rev Maureen Read will lead this special service and celebrate Holy Communion. All are welcome – the service starts at 11am.

WOOLDALE

Morning worship at the Methodist Church was conducted by Michael Tolson. The organist was Sue Ogden.
