Holme Valley Mountain Rescue volunteer John Hodgson rode 1,957 miles from Marsden to John O’Groats, Land’s End and back to raise cash for the organisation.

John, 65, of Crosland Moor, completed the run between July 19 and 24 to raise about £450 for the organisation which hopes to buy the former Marsden Fire Station for its headquarters.

Mr Hodgson, who completed the run on a 1981 Honda CX 500, said: “It’s something I had always wanted to do but I should have done it when I was 30 years younger.”

Holme Valley Mountain Rescue, currently based at Manchester Road, Marsden, holds a fundraising concert with the Oyster Band, at Holmfirth Picturedrome, on November 29.

Tickets are available from Holmfirth Tourist Office and holmevalleymrt.org.uk.
