UP-and-coming textile designer Amy Stubbs is hoping her work was in vogue at Paris Fashion Week.

The 23-year-old had six fabric designs on display at the prestigious show last month and is hoping they were snapped up by a top fashion house or clothing company.

Amy, who lives in Holme, did the designs while on work placement with London-based Whiston and Wright and is still waiting to hear if Gucci, Versace or Armani were interested in her work.

And if any of the big designers do take on her prints the former Holmfirth High School pupil will have her grandma to thank.

Amy, who currently works as a silk scarf and tie designer, said her grandma’s Holmfirth cottage had provided a lot of the inspiration for her work.

She said: “I use old photos of my grandma’s cottage and modernise them with bright colours.

“It’s a bit of a 1950s timebomb and it’s really interesting to look round.

“She’s got loads of old magazines, furniture and other items from the 50s.

“That was the inspiration for my last year at university.

“After that it kind of became my style.”

Amy, who has also done a placement at prestigious London department store Liberty, has already received a commission from a large greetings cards company and her scarves and ties have been taken by Harrods and Top Shop.

Now she is set to sell her wares closer to home at Holmfirth Art Market.

The high end market has a tough application process for aspiring designers who want to be featured.

Amy was awarded Best Newcomer by art market bosses and has been given a free stall for the event tomorrow.

She added: “It’s getting a good group of people now, it’s been growing for a few years and it’s got its reputation up.”

Holmfirth Art Market is run twice in the winter and twice in the summer.

Last Sunday Amy was at the indoor markets off Huddersfield Road and she returns there tomorrow from 10am to 4pm. Entry is £2.
