MACMILLAN Cancer Support has thanked organisers of Holmfirth Artweek for raising a record amount of money for the charity.

This year’s Artweek, held at Holmfirth Civic Hall in July, raised a record £39,000 for the charity, which provides support nurses for cancer patients.

The annual event, which also took place in 29 other venues around Holmfirth, donated 20% of its takings to Macmillan.

Artweek, which features everything from paintings and sculptures, to glass, ceramics and fabrics, attracts thousands of visitors each year from West Yorkshire and around the UK.

Jude Faulkner, Macmillan Holmfirth committee member, said: “Some funds are still to be collected, but it is anticipated that this year’s event will have raised an amazing £39,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“This incredible annual event, one of the largest open art exhibitions in the UK, attracts art lovers from far and wide to the Holme Valley. However, none of it would happen without the support and hard work of many volunteers.

“The Macmillan Cancer Support Holmfirth Fundraising Committee would like to thank everybody who helped to make the 2012 Artweek such a huge success.”
