HELP the aged in Holmfirth is asking for your help.

The charity is feeling the pinch of the recession, suffering from the lowest stock levels it has seen in over a year.

Julie Hemingway, manager of Holmfirth Help the Aged said: “We urge people with unwanted Christmas presents and clothes to come down and help us out.

“It’s a really important part of our charity and would be greatly appreciated.”

The charity which started in 1944 has since become a nationwide organisation.

It relies on donations from local communities and nationwide campaigns to sell in its shops to continue to help the aged.

In 1998 the charities Heating or Eating appeal raised £1m.

In the near future Help the Aged will be merging with Age Concern England aiming to reach out to more elderly people in the UK.

The Holmfirth shop at 8-10 Towngate is open Monday to Saturday from 9am until 5pm and Sunday from 10-5pm.
