A BANK worker who is afraid of heights is set to sky dive for charity.

Yorkshire Bank cashier Sarah Whitworth, who works at the New Street, Huddersfield, branch, is set to leap 15,000 feet from a plane to raise cash for Kirkwood Hospice.

And her generous employers have promised to match every pound she raises.

But the 21-year-old is going alone as none of her colleagues dared to join her charitable efforts.

She said: “I’m petrified of heights, but I won’t chicken out.

“I would never choose to do it if it wasn’t for charity.

“I will be scared, I don’t like heights, a rollercoaster is enough for me, but it’s the thing that raises the most money.”

The Holmfirth woman said her family would be supporting her at the tandem jump on September 18 and said it wasn’t her first fundraising effort.

She said: “I’ve done a few things, Race for Life, It’s A Knockout and charity football for Children In Need.

“I like to try and give back.

“I think if I can I might as well as it could be me in Kirkwood Hospice one day.”

Sarah is hoping to raise more than £1,000 in total.

And to help her reach the target her parents, Patricia and Beverley, are holding an ‘Open House’ on Sunday, September 11 at their home at Little Cliffe, Town End Road, Wooldale, from 2.30pm when they will be serving cream teas and organising a raffle to add to Sarah’s hospice collection.

All will be made welcome.
