There'll be a feast of fine foods and crafts in Dewsbury next weekend.

The second annual Homemade Festival takes place in and around Dewsbury Town Hall and Market on November 9 from 11am to 4pm.

The festival features 40 food, drink, arts, crafts and gift stalls, as well as free cookery demo, craft workshops, children’s workshops, live music and street theatre.

For carnivores there’ll be a selection of exotic meats, including kangaroo and ostrich, while cookies and chocolates will satisfy those with a sweet tooth.

Visitors are advised to leave their cars at home and sample specialist local ciders and beers at the Bier Huis and Italian wines on sale from Ka Plonk.

Those looking for Christmas presents will find some unusual gifts including blankets made from recycled Huddersfield yarn and hand-crafted jewellery created from broken skateboards.

Meanwhile children can make light-catchers, paper jewellery and musical instruments with Holmfirth-based ethical educators Fairandfunky.

Last year’s Homemade Festival attracted 4,000 people.

Clr Cathy Scott, Kirklees Cabinet Member for Place, said: “The Homemade Festival will bring together, in one place, a brilliant choice of things to buy, new things to try and great things to learn in our demonstrations.

“I hope that as last year the festival will create a vibrant, electric atmosphere in Dewsbury town centre and will attract people young and old from across the region.

“With the wide range of stalls, workshops, demos and family entertainment there will be something for everyone. I am very pleased and proud to be officially opening the festival”.
