Charity Kirkwood Hospice opened a new shop in Newsome in late 2012.
Since that time it has become a focal point in the local community and now boasts a 17 strong team of volunteers from the local area.
Eager helpers donate anything from an hour or two per week to a full day in the shop.
Deputy manager Sarah Stancliffe says she is delighted by the number of volunteers.
She said: “We have a wide range of people from the local community giving up their free time to help out.
“Our youngest volunteer is just 15 and our eldest is now in her mid 70s.
“Our volunteers come from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures which creates a great team dynamic.
“Some of our younger volunteers come to us as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award, whereas some of our older members have been supporting the hospice for years. They are all fantastic.”
Staff at the Newsome shop have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people from the local area and have had some fantastic items donated recently.
“We had an almost new Radley handbag brought in a few weeks ago.
“We are seeing some really nice item being donated.” added Sarah. “People can come in and get some great items for a fraction of price on the High Street.”
The Newsome shop sells a range of goods including books, DVDs, ladies fashion and accessories. There is also a separate toy shop for children to explore whilst their parents enjoy shopping.
And it is a good time to pop in to grab a bargain in time for the Christmas party season with a range of stock having recently arrived at the shop, including dresses and evening wear from Monsoon and Per Una.
Kirkwood Hospice now has 20 shops across Kirklees. The Newsome shop is located at 2-4 Ruth Street and is open Monday to Saturday 9am – 5pm.
