EXCEEDING THE SPEED LIMITA recent early morning speed check in the area showed that 75% of the vehicles recorded exceeding the speed limit were registered to local people. Four Skelmanthorpe residents were guilty of speeding along with four from Shelley, two from Denby Dale, two from Emley and one each from Scissett, Clayton West and Cumberworth. At each village meeting we attend speeding is usually a main topic of complaint in the area. Please check your speed as you drive through our local village streets and adhere to the specified limits.

OFF-ROAD BIKES – REPORT ITWe have had some fabulous weather recently, but unfortunately this has led to increased reports about problems with ‘off-road’ bikes, mainly in the Flockton, Emley and Skelmanthorpe areas. These bikes are usually driven by riders without helmets or insurance, and we have had reports of riders going up and down residential streets. This is not only antisocial but very dangerous, especially when young children are outside playing. We take these reports very seriously and we’re working with the newly formed Kirklees Off-Road Bikes Team – two officers trained to use special police motorcycles. If you see any off-road bikes out and about, please ring the 0845 6060606 non-emergency number and report it. We need the reports logged on our system so we can respond to the calls. These logs also help us when working with Kirklees Antisocial Behaviour Unit. If you know the identity of these riders, please tell us. You do not have to give your name. Please don’t just put up with it.

LOCAL PRIORITIES Skelmanthorpe – reducing antisocial behaviour around Smithy Close, Laburnum Grove, Elmfield Drive, Ashfield Avenue, Lidgett Lane and Cross Lane. Clayton West – reducing antisocial behaviour in and around Back Lane, The Cricket Field, The Royds and Long Lane areas of Clayton West.
