CLAYTON WEST

Parishioners in Clayton West were given two opportunities to worship at All Saints Church on Sunday. At 8am there was a service of said communion, led by the Rev Joy Cousans and at 9.15am a Taizé service was led by Jayne Stanley and Jean Newby.Traditionally the Taizé service is one of quiet meditation, reflection, readings and music. Using some of the Taizé chants, a gospel reading from Matthew 4 (verses12-23) delivered by Wynn Leake, a reflection upon the reading and prayers of intercession written by Jonathan Newcombe, Jayne and Jean constructed a service based on Jesus being the fisher of ‘men’ and leading those ‘men’ to further develop the work of God throughout society and for the people of the day; time and change never stand still! Refreshments at the end of the Taizé service were served by Trish Bond.

SKELMANTHORPE

A service of hymns and readings was held at the Wesleyan Reform Church on Sunday morning. It was led by Carol Senior and John Orton played the piano.

On Sunday last at Skelmanthorpe Methodist Church, Mrs Jean Heath was the preacher for the service, the theme of which was ‘light’. Jean told the children and members of the congregation about a place near to Birdsedge, where she felt sure that people of early settlements worshipped the sun because it gave people light and life. She likened this to the way Jesus gave us life. Jean read a lesson from the Old Testament about light and darkness from the book of Isaiah. Ailsa Horton read a New Testament lesson from Mathew’s Gospel. Clare Dodsley was the steward and Frances Priestnall played the organ.
