A Huddersfield group took on one of the country’s wackiest races as they set sail in their bed in Knaresborough to raise £2,000 for a children's charity.

And John Hannibal Smith, B.A. Baracus and Murdock could all be found aboard Arrow Self Drive’s team boat, which they launched into the waters on July 11 as part of a fund raiser for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and Knaresborough Lions.

The Linthwaite-based firm were joined by 87 other mad cap teams made up of other small and silver screen greats, who turned the town’s streets into a mini Hollywood for the day. Scooby Doo and the Mystery Team, Wacky Races, the Flintstones and many minions from Despicable Me joined the group to splash their way through the waters across a gruelling 2.4mile course.

And in true A-Team style the team soldiered on despite encountering a few problems with their bed design and finishing in last place after their 25 minute voyage.

Amanda Crowther, marketing executive of Arrow Self Drive, added: “Many thanks to everyone who took part and the family and friends who supported us on the day. Next year we promise to do better.

“We would like to thank all those who supported and donated to us.”

It was the latest event for the team, who supplied the charity with branded vans to tour the region to pick up goods for their retail shops.

Forget Me Not senior corporate partnership manager, Kate Goldring, said: “We are thrilled to have the support of Arrow Self Drive who took on this fantastic challenge.

“Our supporters never fail to surprise us with the ways in which they fundraise for our very special cause and Arrow Self Drive were no exception.”
