There are still 112 days until Christmas – but thoughts are already turning to the festive period.

The annual Huddersfield Santa Dash and Reindeer Run is back again to raise much needed money for local charities.

Organised by the Huddersfield Lions, the event will be officially launched on Wednesday, September 25 at 7.30pm at Lindley Liberal Club for charities, community groups and people to attend to sign up.

Thanks to sponsorship from Armitage’s Garden Centre in Birchencliffe they will be giving five free places out on the night.

Andrew Thornes, president of the Lions, said: “We understand that charities in the Huddersfield area are struggling in the current economic climate.

“It takes a lot to organise their own events and get money in, so this is our gift to them and the community.

“The Lions International and Huddersfield Lions are doing what we can to make life easy for local charities.

“Last year the event raised more than £16,000 so it’s worth it.

“And thanks to Armitage’s staging the event isn’t as expensive.”

Adult participation is just £5 which includes a free Santa suit and its £2.50 for the under 11s, who get reindeer ears and a flashing red nose.

The actual Santa Dash and Reindeer Run takes place on Sunday, December 8 at 10.30am and covers a one mile course in Huddersfield town centre that is suitable for runners, walkers, wheel and push chairs.
