THE Archbishop of Canterbury’s references to the acceptance of Sharia law and the subsequent and inordinate amount of hysteria which has swept the country seems to me to show an inordinate amount of misunderstanding and or ignorance.

As I have on many occasions stated I am irreligious, but that does not prevent my expressing opinions on any subject, including the strange behaviour of churches of whatever creed.

Surely the archbishop, when referring to Sharia law, meant religious laws wherein the Muslim leaders have the power to judge and mete out a range of punishments from the mild to the horrendous upon their devout subjects.

I feel certain he was not suggesting the civil or criminal laws of our land be compromised or interfered with in any way and if under Sharia law any citizen is put to death or harmed in any way then the perpetrators will be dealt with by the full force of British Law.
