MY heart goes out to Ken Maddison (“I’m angry that any kind of help has to be battled for” Senior Moments, November 23).

I am in a similar position; I have cared for my mother since 1997. She has steadily deteriorated, to the position of being “bed bound” with two broken hips, one occurring while under the tender loving care of the HRI.

After 10 years it was decided I needed some respite and she was admitted into a home for three weeks.

All this care, plus ambulance transport, had to be paid for, the care she received was not up to standard and she came home in a very poorly state.

I noted on the opposite page to Ken Maddison’s article the headline “A star behind bars”, where prisoners are having a “field day”. I wonder who is being punished.
