Holme Moss is set to be in the cycling spotlight this year - in more ways than one.

The spectacular climb is to be a highlight when the Tour de France racers head through Huddersfield on July 6.

But it is also set to host a massive charity initiative which will be a real test for local and national riders.

Registration has opened for what promises to be one of the best rides in the area on September 14 - the 65 Roses Holme Moss Classic Cyclosportive.

The 65 mile closed road, massed start ride will set out from Magna Science Centre near Rotherham and take in the rolling hills of Yorkshire, including an ascent of the iconic Holme Moss.

With 6,000 feet of climbing, it’s a tough but enjoyable ride open to riders of all abilities.

However, if Holme Moss doesn’t take your fancy, there is an alternative shorter route that avoids the big climb.

The second Holme Moss Classic will build on the inaugural success of last year, which gained wide spread recognition and plaudits for the quality of the ride and organisation, including its now famous ladies’ “pink toilet”.

At just £25 to enter and with its rapidly growing reputation, organisers Team Cystic Fibrosis are expecting to reach the 800 capacity quickly.

The event is supported by a number of sponsors, including Magna Science Adventure Centre, Planet X, Porsche and Nielsens Travel, with regular refreshment and facilities stops en route.

David Hanney, CEO of Planet X, said: “We were keen to sponsor this event from the start and continue to be impressed by the professionalism of Team Cystic Fibrosis. They organise a fantastic day of cycling in some of our most beautiful countryside, which will become ever more popular as Tour de France fever takes hold”.

The 65 Roses Holme Moss Classic starts at 9am on September 14. Registration is available through British Cycling and has now opened on: http://65roses-
