A violinist who performed on the soundtracks to blockbusters including James Bond Skyfall and The Hobbit will play a free public recital at the opening of an acclaimed Russian artist’s Holme Valley studio.

Virtuoso Thomas Bowes will play at Natalia Dolgova Studio, Merle Mede, Upper Hagg Road, Thongsbridge, on June 28 at 6pm.

Bowes will be performing with his wife and revered composer and pianist Eleanor Alberga.

The pair have worked with some of the world’s greatest ensembles including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Manchester’s Hallé Orchestra.

Siberian-born Dolgova, whose ‘modern renaissance’ style has attracted numerous accolades, is hoping to turn her studio into a workshop for local artists, writers and musicians.

Oil painter Dolgova, who grew up in the far east of Russia, moved to St Petersburg and Denmark before settling in the UK, in 2005.

Her colourful works are inspired by the folklore and legends of Russia, Denmark and Yorkshire.

Dolgova, who met Bowes and Alberga in Denmark, said: “Holme Valley and Hagg Wood are quite inspiring places. I wanted to make the studio a special place for arts and poetry. I’ll be doing drawing classes and other community events.”

The studio, which will be a fringe venue during Holmfirth Art Week (July 20-26), will also be showing glass works by Danish artist Ditte Haahr Hvas, sculpture by Serbian artist Danilo Krstajic and jewellery by Russian artist Aleksandra Nikolaeva. More information email: nataliad.kukunet@gmail.com.
