AUTHOR Jill Robinson was speaker at The Huddersfield Group of Advanced Motorists latest meeting. Her talk was called Who’d Be a Writer?
Jill writes real life stories, but changes the names of the characters for their benefits. Her first book was well received with comments of “well written and entertaining – but not suitable for our stock.”
That was until Hebden Bridge Publishing saw it. The man in charge left the script on his kitchen table where his wife read it and said: “This is really good we must publish this.”
Book cover choice was limited so it was decided to design it like a personal ads column. Following this she published her second book herself “hard work but rewarding”, said Jill.
Then she was asked to do after dinner speaking, following which she has now completed her third book with a full colour front and back cover designed by her daughter-in-law.
The books are based around a place called Berringden Brow, which in real life is Luddendenfoot.
Jill found it hard to get book shops to sell them and has been known to sell them in the queue for the theatre.
This month saw Robert Ian Greaves pass his Advanced Driving Test thanks to guidance from Lionel Holmes.
The next meeting is Monday November 2 at The Royal British Legion Club, Scar Lane, Golcar; (7.30pm for 8pm), when it will be the AGM followed by a talk from Gordon Wingrove.
Anyone interested in advanced driving can contact Lionel Holmes on 01484-655068.
