IT’S felt like a long time but at last the doors at the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice will be open to in-patients.

More than 12 years ago mum Linda Senior was caring for her seriously ill disabled son Russell in a hospital far from their Ainley Top home and could not believe there was no hospice care for children closer than Manchester or Boston Spa.

She worked so hard to get the charity going and since then it has grown greatly to include dozens of hard-working volunteers who set up fundraising groups.

The money has paid for the hospice and it will need a massive commitment to raise the £2.5m needed for its running costs each year.

But there are other unsung heroes out there ... and that’s you, our Examiner readers. Without your generosity the money would not have been raised.

The hospice has captured people’s hearts and their imagination.

Now all you have to do is keep up the brilliant work.
