VILLAGERS have banded together to produce a right royal Diamond Jubilee celebration.
Community groups in Kirkburton and Highburton have joined forces to host a bumper weekend of activities in honour of the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.
And after many months of planning the schedule of events has now been revealed.
It includes a Village Fayre, a Big Lunch, an afternoon tea and history and fashion exhibitions.
Co-ordinator, Raychel McGuin, said: “The voluntary and community groups involved have been working closely with each other and the Kirkburton Business Association to make sure that there is something for everyone and lots of events happening over the whole weekend.
“We believe that this will be a unique event with so many local people and groups being involved with the planning and organisation of the celebrations. “This event will provide a fabulous opportunity for breaking down barriers between the villages and bringing together the local people for this special occasion.”
Celebrations kick off with beer festival at Kirkburton Scout Hut on Friday, June 1.
On Saturday, June 2 the Village Fayre will take over Gregory Field with fun for all the family.
It will feature games, stalls and competitions along with The Ministry of Chocolate workshops and music from Shelley Music Centre Big Band.
On Sunday, The Burton Big Eat at Burton Village Hall will bring villagers together for a big feed.
There will be two sittings at 1pm and 5pm and places need to be reserved by phoning Peter or Vanda on 01484 605160.
From 2pm to 4pm on Sunday will also feature afternoon tea at the Hilton’s when local couple Dave and Angie will invite people into their home (info: 01484 602241).
Two exhibitions will also be running throughout the weekend.
The Memories of Kirkburton charting events from 1850-1950 will run from Saturday, June 2 to Tuesday, June 5 at the Hub.
A history of wedding dresses exhibition will run for the same period at All Hallows Church.
Valleys Community Transport, part of the Denby Dale Centre, will be providing transport throughout the weekend to bring people from the whole of the Denby Dale and Kirkburton ward to the Jubilee Celebrations. Call 01484 860077 for a timetable.
Funding and support for the events has been partly provided by Kirkburton and Denby Dale Parish Councils and East Peak Innovation Project.
